OSGEMEOS are currently in NYC setting up their upcoming solo show with Lehmann Maupin. After couple of initial date changes, the long awaited “Silence Of Music” show will open on August 9th as their first New York solo show with the gallery.
The artists are currently in the city, working with fellow artists (i.e. Doze Green), on an immersive installation that combines drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, sculpture, and kinetic and audio elements. As with their previous work, the new pieces are experimenting with diverse mediums and wide range of influences - from the colors and tradition of native Brazil to strong influence of hip-hop culture and especially its NYC roots. Similar to their latest solo show “A ópera da lua” with Galpão Fortes Vilaça in their hometown of Sao Paulo, this exhibition is planned as a site-specific installation. With each room containing unique grouping of paintings and objects that cover the wall, floor to ceiling, OSGEMEOS once again approach exhibition as a total work of art. Paying tribute to the music and especially the origins of hip-hop in 70s and 80s, the exhibition includes boom box paintings, interactive sculptures that play LP records as well as new, music-themed oil paintings. “Silence Of Music” will stay on view through October 22nd at gallery's NYC location on 536 West 22nd Street, New York.
